Biography
Arturo Puig became famous as the lead actor of 1970s telenovelas, such as "Me llaman gorrión" (1972) and "Pablo en nuestra piel" (1977).{{cite web |url= http://www.telam.com.ar/notas/201303/10289-arturo-puig-el-espectador-es-mucho-mas-libre-que-antes.html|title= Arturo Puig: "El espectador es mucho más libre que antes"|trans-title=Arturo Puig: "The spectator is more free than before"|language= Spanish|date= 13 March 2013|publisher= Telam|accessdate=26 July 2013}}
He was the lead actor of Grande, pá!, a big success in Argentine television during the 1990s.{{cite web |url= http://www.lanacion.com.ar/1564941-un-artista-todoterreno|title= Un artista todoterreno|trans-title=An all-terrain artist|language= Spanish|author= Carolina Amoroso|date= 20 March 2013|publisher= La Nación|accessdate=24 July 2013}} The TV channel Telefe proposed him to make a remake, but he refused, as the channel did not want to hire the full cast of the original series as Puig proposed.
In the 2000s he has worked sporadically in TV, becoming instead a notable theater actor. He worked in plays such as "El Precio", "Cristales rotos" and "Panorama desde el puente", by Arthur Miller, "¿Quién le teme a Virginia Woolf?" by Edward Albee, and "La vuelta al hogar" by Harold Pinter.{{cite web |url= http://www.lanacion.com.ar/1371287-arturo-puig-ese-gran-actor-todoterreno|title= Arturo Puig, ese gran actor todoterreno|trans-title=Arturo Puig, that great all-terrain actor|language= Spanish|author= Pablo Sirvén|date= 8 May 2011|publisher= La Nación|accessdate=26 July 2013}} In "Rompiendo códigos" he played the British mathematician Alan Turing.{{cite web|url= http://www.losandes.com.ar/notas/2013/1/21/solamente-vos-arturo-puig-sale-closet-692290.asp|title= "Solamente vos": Arturo Puig sale del closet|trans-title= "Solamente vos": Arturo Puig comes out of the closet|language= Spanish|date= 21 January 2013|publisher= Los Andes|accessdate= 26 July 2013|archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20130329104110/http://www.losandes.com.ar/notas/2013/1/21/solamente-vos-arturo-puig-sale-closet-692290.asp|archive-date= 29 March 2013|url-status= dead}}
As of 2013, he plays the gay parent of the main character of the Solamente Vos comedy telenovela. He mentioned that he is satisfied that modern television does not use self-censorship on such topics anymore. This is not the first time that Puig played a gay character: besides the play on Alan Turing, he had played another one in Botines, but not under a comedic tone. He also worked in the successful film Tesis sobre un homicidio. Thanks to Gustavo Yankelevich, he worked as a theater director for the first time, in the play Le Prénom, with actors Germán Palacios, Jorgelina Aruzzi, Mercedes Funes, Carlos Belloso and Peto Menahem.
He is married to Selva Aleman, making his mother-in-law the famous actress Carmen Vallejo.{{Cite web |date=2023-01-25 |title=Selva Aleman y Arturo Puig: 48 años de una historia de amor que creció al ritmo de una telenovela |url=https://www.lanacion.com.ar/espectaculos/personajes/selva-aleman-y-arturo-puig-48-anos-de-una-historia-de-amor-que-crecio-al-ritmo-de-una-telenovela-nid25012023/ |access-date=2024-09-24 |website=LA NACION |language=es}}
