Background
Asif Ali Khan Durrani originally hails from Quetta where he was born to a Durrani tribe of Pashtuns. Durrani holds a Master's degree from the University of Balochistan in Quetta, and a Masters in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.{{cite web|url=http://www.pakistanembassyuae.org/view/ambassador-pak-uae.aspx|title=Ambassador of Pakistan to the United Arab Emirates|work=Embassy of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi|accessdate=25 February 2014|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131017234755/http://pakistanembassyuae.org/view/ambassador-pak-uae.aspx|archive-date=17 October 2013|url-status=dead}} He joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1986. He served in various diplomatic postings in New Delhi, Tehran, New York, Kabul and London.
