Early life and education
Asim was born in January 1963. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Politics from University of the South Pacific, Fiji in 1989. He has a Master of Philosophy in development studies from Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in 1992. He has also received a Doctor of Philosophy from the Victoria University of Wellington in 2011. Career
Asim started his government service by becoming the Director for Strategic Planning at the now defunct Ministry of Planning and National Development in 1985.
