Biography
Ataollah Zahed was born in 1915 in Shiraz, Fars province, Qajar Iran.{{Cite book |last=Omid |first=Jamal |title=Tarikh-e Sinema-ye Iran, 1279–1357 |publisher=Entesharat-e Rowzaneh |year=1995 |location=Tehran, Iran |pages=932 |language=fa |trans-title=The History of Iranian Cinema: 1900–1978}} Around age 9 he started his artistic activities by acting in a play.
He attended the University of Tehran, where he received a B.A. degree in literature.{{Cite web |date=November 2005 |title=برگي از تاريخ |trans-title=A leaf from history |url=https://images.hamshahrionline.ir/hamnews/1384/840815/news/_akhar.htm |website=Hamshahrionline.ir |language=fa}} He later studied Islamic jurisprudence at {{III|Marvi Theological School|fa|مدرسه علمیه مروی}} and Shahid Motahari University. Zahed was one of the founders of Hosseiniyeh Ershad, a non-traditional religious institute in Tehran, where he taught theater and cinema courses.
Zahed died of a heart attack on 6 November 1991, and is buried in Ibn Babawayh Cemetery in Ray, Greater Tehran.
