An Iron Age residence and a cemetery are also located near the castle. It is not known when Aulanko Castle was built, but it was demolished in the 13th century. At the same time, the construction of Häme Castle began on the other side of Lake Vanajavesi.{{Cite web |date=February 29, 2008 |title=Aulangonlinna |url=https://asiointi.maanmittauslaitos.fi/karttapaikka/?lang=fi&share=customMarker&n=6767929&e=363274&title=Aulangonlinna%2C+H%C3%A4meenlinna&desc=Aulangonlinna%2C+H%C3%A4meenlinna&zoom=10&layers=%5B%7B%22id%22%3A2%2C%22opacity%22%3A100%7D%5D |access-date=January 19, 2022 |publisher=National Land Survey of Finland |language=fi}}
