Bakkum is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Castricum and lies about 12 km southwest of Alkmaar. It has three satellites: the village of {{ill|Bakkum-Noord|nl}}, the hamlet {{ill|Noord Bakkum|nl}} and Bakkum aan Zee which is nowadays called {{ill|Castricum aan Zee|nl}}.

The village was first mentioned in the late-11th century as Bachem, and means "settlement on a height".{{cite web|url=https://etymologiebank.nl/trefwoord/bakkum |title=Bakkum - (geografische naam) |website=Etymologiebank |access-date=27 April 2022 |language=nl}} Bakkum used to be a heerlijkheid. In 1749, it was sold to Nicolaas Geelvinck who was Lord of Castricum among others.{{cite news|url=https://www.dbnl.org/tekst/sten009monu11_01/sten009monu11_01_0028.php |title=Bakkum |author=Ronald Stenvert & Saskia van Ginkel-Meester |publisher=Waanders |location=Zwolle |year=2006 |language=nl |access-date=27 April 2022}}

In 1812, Bakkum became a part of the municipality of Castricum.{{cite web|url=https://www.plaatsengids.nl/bakkum |title=Bakkum |website=Plaatsengids |access-date=27 April 2022 |language=nl}} Some tourism developed in the early 20th century, but Bakkum never developed into a seaside resort town. After World War II, it started to form a single urban area with Castricum.
