Balatonkeresztúr is a village in Somogy county, Hungary.

The settlement is part of the Balatonboglár wine region.[https://web.archive.org/web/20160410182214/http://www.delbalatonibor.hu/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/HK-Tan%C3%A1cs-Alapszab%C3%A1ly.pdf A Balatonboglári borvidék hegyközségi tanácsának alapszabálya (PDF)]

Etymology

According to the local tradition, the village's name comes from the crossing of roads ({{langx|hu|kereszteződés, keresztezés}}). However, the more well-accepted theory states that, like many other villages in Somogy County, Balatonkeresztúr was named after the patron of its church, in this case, Szent Kereszt ({{langx|en|Holy Cross}}).[http://somogy.hu/publikaciok/kiraly-lajos-somogyi-helysegnevek-nepi-es.html Lajos Király : Somogyi helységnevek népi és ...]

History

According to László Szita, the settlement was completely Hungarian in the 18th century.[https://library.hungaricana.hu/hu/view/SOMM_SomAlm_052/?pg=10&layout=s&query=korpád László Szita : Somogy megyei nemzetiségek településtörténete a XVIII-XIX. században - Somogyi Almanach 52. (Kaposvár, 1993)]

Culture

The Hungarian folk song Szép a huszár, ha felül a lovára was collected in 1923 in Balatonkeresztúr by Lajos Bárdos.
