History

Bejart had previously founded a company in Paris, which he named first Les Ballets de l'Étoile, and later Ballet Théâtre de Maurice Bejart. When he moved to Brussels in 1960,{{cite book|author=Steve Luck|title=The American Desk Encyclopedia|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=o8MdoOd6pOcC&pg=PA90|date=22 October 1998|publisher=Oxford University Press|isbn=978-0-19-521465-9|page=90}} he relocated the company and renamed it Ballet du XXme Siècle.{{cite book|work=Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc.|title=Britannica Concise Encyclopedia|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ea-bAAAAQBAJ&pg=PA191|date=1 May 2008|isbn=978-1-59339-492-9|page=191}} It was eventually dissolved when Bejart moved to Switzerland to form Béjart Ballet in Lausanne in 1987.
