Background

Band members invest in deals directly; there is no pooling of resources or voting. Since 1994, Band members have invested over $186 million into over 200 startup companies. Thirteen deals that presented to the Band as seed investments became public companies; these alone returned $240M in cash to Band members and 63 other companies in the Band's portfolio have been acquired for a gain.{{Cite web |url=http://www.pr-inside.com/two-band-of-angels-seeded-companies-r1227231.htm |title=Two Band of Angels 'Seeded' Companies Acquired in First Quarter of 2009 |access-date=2009-06-01 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120229100008/http://www.pr-inside.com/two-band-of-angels-seeded-companies-r1227231.htm |archive-date=2012-02-29 |url-status=dead }}

In 2004 The Angel Capital Association established the Hans Severiens Award[http://www.angelcapitalassociation.org/dir_documents/2009%20Hans%20Severiens%20Award%20Application.pdf]{{dead link|date=April 2018}} to recognize one person each year for outstanding accomplishments in the advancement of angel investing.
