History
The building was erected in 1926 and was Jacksonville's tallest building at the time, surpassing the Heard National Bank Building. It was designed by architecture firm Mowbray & Uffinger for Barnett Bank.{{cite web|url=http://www.jaxhistory.com/Jax%20Arch%20Herit/D-8.htm|title=Florida's Seminole Wars|work=THE JACKSONVILLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY}} It remained Jacksonville's tallest building until the construction of the building now known as the Aetna Building in 1954. By the late 1990s it had fallen into disrepair; plans to restore and redevelop the building were proposed throughout the 2000s, but ultimately fell through.{{cite news |title= New team has big plans for a trio of Laura Street buildings |author= David Bauerlein |url= http://jacksonville.com/news/metro/2010-05-25/story/team-hopes-revamped-laura-street-trio-trumps-downtown-reputation |newspaper= The Florida Times-Union |date= May 25, 2010 |access-date=November 4, 2011}}Bull, Roger.
