Basilius Petritz

Basilius Petritz (20 May 1647{{spaced ndash}}6 September 1715) was a German composer and Kreuzkantor in Dresden from 1694 to 1713.Vierteljahrsschrift für Musikwissenschaft 10, Friedrich Chrysander, Philipp Spitta, Guido Adler 1894 "An seine Stelle wurde gewählt Basilius Petritz, 1694—1713, aus Großenhain, wo er nach Ausweis der Kirchenbücher am 20. Mai 1647 getauft wurde.1 Nähere Nachrichten über seine Eltern finden sich nicht vor."
Petritz was born in Großenhain, in the Electorate of Saxony. He succeeded the Thomaskantor Johann Schelle in Eilenburg, where he influenced the young Friedrich Zachow, until his bid for the Kreuzkantorat in 1694. He died in Dresden, aged 68.
