In 2021, his graphic novel Une sœur was adapted by Charlotte Le Bon into the theatrical feature film Falcon Lake, which is slated to premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.[https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/1877350/premier-film-charlotte-le-bon-falcon-lake-selection-quinzaine-cannes "Le premier film de Charlotte Le Bon, Falcon Lake, sélectionné à Cannes"]. In 2022, in the wake of the 50th anniversary of the International Festival of Angoulême, an exhibition featuring exclusive new illustrations by the artist (and no old ones) was programmed. Several petitions were launched to oppose this decision, claiming the Festival was putting in the spotlight an artist whose work was, if not encouraging, displaying incestuous and pedophile images and scenes.{{Cite web |last=Beauvallet |first=Ève |title=Dessins de Bastien Vivès mis en cause : le Festival d'Angoulême sous pression |url=https://www.liberation.fr/culture/accusations-contre-bastien-vives-le-festival-dangouleme-sous-pression-20221209_LPOJK6QEVJE2NFPQQFGY2SHXDM/ |access-date=2022-12-14 |website=Libération |language=fr}} Criticisms had already been made in 2011, and again in 2018, particularly following the publication of his album Petit Paul. Old interviews and social media posts resurfaced, and Vivès was accused of promoting rape culture.{{Cite web |title=Le cas Vivès |url=https://www.actuabd.com/Le-cas-Vives |access-date=2022-12-16 |website=ActuaBD |language=fr}} The festival mentioned threats and intimidation as the reason for cancelling the exhibit.{{Cite news |date=2022-12-14 |title=L'exposition de Bastien Vivès annulée par le Festival de la BD d'Angoulême pour raisons de « sécurité » |language=fr |work=Le Monde.fr |url=https://www.lemonde.fr/culture/article/2022/12/14/le-festival-international-de-la-bande-dessinee-d-angouleme-annule-l-exposition-de-bastien-vives_6154430_3246.html |access-date=2022-12-18}}{{Cite web |date=2022-12-14 |title=Le festival de BD d'Angoulême annule l'exposition de Bastien Vivès, accusé de promouvoir la pédopornographie, après des "menaces" contre l'auteur |url=https://www.francetvinfo.fr/culture/bd/festival-de-bd-d-angouleme/le-festival-de-bd-d-angouleme-annule-l-exposition-de-bastien-vives-accuse-de-promouvoir-la-pedopornographie-apres-des-menaces-contre-l-auteur_5543805.html |access-date=2022-12-14 |website=Franceinfo |language=fr-FR}}
