Battlefront is a wargame developed by Strategic Studies Group and published by Matrix Games for Microsoft Windows in 2007. The game is a turn-based strategy set in World War II. It is the namesake of an earlier game released by Strategic Studies Group in 1986.
Gameplay
Battlefront is a battalion-level simulation wargame and contains four scenarios that depict battles of World War II. The scenarios are based on Battle of Gazala, Operation Market Garden, Battle of Saipan, and Novorossiysk Defensive Operation. The player can control forces of either Axis or Allied powers. Parameters like fog of war, weather, supply and reinforcements can be changed for every scenario.{{cite web |url=http://www.outofeight.info/2007/03/battlefront-review.html |title=Battlefront Review |first=James |last=Allen |date=14 March 2007 |work=8/8 Games |accessdate=28 September 2018 |archive-date=25 January 2018 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180125074602/http://www.outofeight.info/2007/03/battlefront-review.html |url-status=dead }}{{cite web |url=https://www.wargamer.com/reviews/battlefront/ |title=Battlefront |first=Scott |last=Parrino |date=17 June 2007 |work=Wargamer.com |accessdate=28 September 2018 |archive-date=25 January 2018 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180125020252/http://www.wargamer.com/reviews/battlefront/ |url-status=dead }}{{cite web |url=http://armchairgeneral.com/battlefront-review.htm?cat=59 |title= Battlefront |first=Larry|last=Levandowski|date=31 March 2007 |work=Armchair General |accessdate=28 September 2018}}
Reception
Larry Levandowski of Armchair General praised Battlefront for its scenarios, AI and interface. He stated that "the real point to the game is good old-fashioned war game goodness, and this is where the game stands out". Konstantin Fomin of Absolute Games rated the game 75% noting its dated graphics and lack of innovations, but praising gameplay and difficulty.{{cite web |url=http://www.ag.ru/games/battlefront/review |title=Обзор игры Battlefront |first=Константин |last=Фомин |date=4 July 2007 |work=Absolute Games |accessdate=September 28, 2018 |archive-date=25 January 2018 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180125081513/http://www.ag.ru/games/battlefront/review |url-status=live }} The Wargamer gave Battlefront an Award for Excellence, describing it as "immersive and reasonably challenging".
