Bedale High School is a coeducational comprehensive secondary school situated on Fitzalan Road, Bedale, North Yorkshire, England.
Its predecessor Bedale Grammar School dates to an endowment of 1588. Nicholas Carlisle in his 1818 survey of endowed grammar schools[https://books.google.com/books?id=rY-8ceSYvWoC A Concise Description of the Endowed Grammar Schools in England and Wales], 2 vols. (1818) describes the school as 'ancient', evidencing the fact that the school received Crown funding following the Dissolution of the monasteries (1536-1540).
The School's 2004 Ofsted Inspection Report rated the school for overall effectiveness as Grade 2 (good); in 2007 again as Grade 2; and in 2010, as Grade 3 (satisfactory). In 2019, it was awarded a Grade 2 (good) rating.{{cite web |title=Bedale High School URN: 121670 |url=https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/provider/23/121670 |website=reports.ofsted.gov.uk |access-date=29 November 2020 |date=8 October 2020}}
In 2001, just before the 2001 General Election, Jonathan Dimbleby hosted a live broadcast of Any Questions? from the school.{{cite news |title=Election means all change on BBC panel |url=https://infoweb.newsbank.com/apps/news/document-view?p=AWNB&t=&sort=YMD_date%3AA&page=1&fld-base-0=alltext&maxresults=20&val-base-0=%22bedale%20high%20school%22&docref=news/10D86F7DB43CBC51 |access-date=29 November 2020 |work=infoweb.newsbank.com |date=11 May 2001|url-access=subscription}} In 2017, the police were called to a disturbance on the school playing field. The protest by students was in regard to a restriction on toilet breaks, which one parent described as "humiliating". The police stated it was not a criminal matter.{{cite news |title=Bedale High School pupils protest over toilet restrictions |url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-39235011 |access-date=29 November 2020 |work=BBC News |date=10 March 2017}}{{cite news |last1=Harley |first1=Nicola |title=School bans pupils from spending too much time in the toilets as police called to rowdy protest |url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/03/10/school-bans-pupils-spending-much-time-toilets-police-called/ |access-date=29 November 2020 |work=The Telegraph |date=10 March 2017|url-access=subscription}}
