Bedroom Walls was an American pop rock band active from 2001–2007 in Los Angeles, California. It was formed in 2001 by Adam Samuel Goldman (later of Fol Chen) on guitar/vocals, with keyboardist/vocalist Melissa Thorne and drummer Julian Gross (now of Liars).{{cite web|title=Bedroom Walls|url=http://www.last.fm/music/Bedroom+Walls|website=last.fm|accessdate=7 December 2015}} The band released two full-length albums of self-described "Romanticore" music, a genre founded on "staring at the ceiling; sedatives; stale cake for breakfast; sighing too loudly; knowing your ex-girlfriend is happier now."{{cite web|last1=Olund|first1=Paul|title=Indie Study: Romanticore from Bedroom Walls|url=http://www.today.com/id/14805325/ns/today-today_entertainment/t/inventing-entire-genre-aint-easy/#.VmXw2bSyW8E|website=Today.com|date=14 September 2006 |publisher=MSNBC|accessdate=7 December 2015}} “Some people don’t see any humor in it, but
it’s supposed to be a little funny,” Goldman explained in a 2004 interview. "Sad music fails when there isn’t a
little bit of absurdity to it or black comedy to it."{{cite news|last1=Wenzlaff|first1=Andrew|title=Bedroom Walls Plays on humor to express melancholic music|url=http://dailybruin.com/2004/06/02/bedroom-walls-plays-on-humor-t/|accessdate=7 December 2015|agency=UCLA|publisher=The Daily Bruin|date=June 2, 2004}}
After the release of their debut album, I Saw You Coming Back To Me (2003), the lineup expanded to include Vanessa Kaufman (replacing Gross on drums), Sean Hoffman (guitar/glockenspiel), Kris Canning (bass), and Aurisha Smolarski (violin).{{cite web|title=Artists: Bedroom Walls|url=http://www.mtv.com/artists/bedroom-walls/|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121006064019/http://www.mtv.com/artists/bedroom-walls/|url-status=dead|archive-date=October 6, 2012|website=MTV.com|accessdate=8 December 2015}} They performed live on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic in December 2003, citing influences like Aztec Camera and The Durutti Column, and opened for bands including American Music Club and Arthur Lee & Love.{{cite web|title=Morning Becomes Eclectic: Bedroom Walls Live|url=http://www.kcrw.com/music/shows/morning-becomes-eclectic/bedroom-walls|website=KCRW.com|accessdate=8 December 2015}}
The second LP, All Good Dreamers Pass This Way (2006), was described by one critic as "a parchment origami of wide-ranging pop influences, all bright melodies, overcast arrangements and grown-up feelings."{{cite news|last1=Wilson|first1=Scott|title=Critics' Choices|url=http://www.pitch.com/kansascity/bedroom-walls/Content?oid=2186804|accessdate=8 December 2015|publisher=The Pitch|date=September 6, 2007}} It featured the songs "In Anticipation of Your Suicide," (which appeared in the 2006 film All The Boys Love Mandy Lane),{{cite web|title=All The Boys Love Mandy Lane: Soundtrack|url=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0490076/soundtrack|website=IMDB.com|accessdate=7 December 2015}} "Kathy in Her Bedroom," and "Do the Buildings and Cops Make You Smile?"
