Begnins is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It belongs to the wine-producing area of La Côte.

History

Begnins was first mentioned in 1145 as Begnins.

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 9.4% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.8%. Out of the forested land, 15.7% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.5% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 38.9% is used for growing crops and 6.9% is pastures, while 23.0% is used for orchards or vine crops.

The municipality is located in the western part of the wine-growing region of La Côte. It is situated above the medieval town of Nyon between Lake Geneva (Lac Leman) and the Jura Mountains, near the cities of Geneva and Lausanne.

In the 2007 federal election the most popular party was the Swiss People's Party which received 25.55% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland (17.68%), the FDP.The Liberals (13.97%) and the Green Party (13.37%).
