Behentrimonium chloride, also known as docosyltrimethylammonium chloride or BTAC-228, is a yellow waxlike organic compound with chemical formula {{chem2|CH3(CH2)21N(Cl)(CH3)3}}, used as an antistatic agent and, sometimes, a disinfectant. It is commonly found in cosmetics such as conditioners, hair dye, and mousse, and also in detergents. Laboratory tests have indicated that it does readily biodegrade.{{cite journal|last1=Yamane|first1=Masayuki|last2=Toyo|first2=Takamasa|last3=Inoue|first3=Katsuhisa|last4=Sakai|first4=Takaya|last5=Kaneko|first5=Youhei|last6=Nishiyama|first6=Naohiro|title=Aquatic Toxicity and Biodegradability of Advanced Cationic Surfactant APA-22 Compatible with the Aquatic Environment|journal=Journal of Oleo Science|volume=57|issue=10|year=2008|pages=529–538|issn=1345-8957|doi=10.5650/jos.57.529|pmid=18781053|doi-access=free}}
