Balkhash City is located less than {{convert|70|km|sp=us}} to the south of the range and the M36 Highway passes to the west of it. The range is part of the Bektauata State Zoological Nature Sanctuary, a IUCN Category IV protected area.{{cn|date=November 2022}} There is a campsite in one of the valleys of the range.Google Maps
History
The Bektauata burial ground is an early Iron Age archaeological site, belonging to the Tasmola culture. Geography

Bektauata is a small rocky range of moderate altitude located at the southern end of the Kazakh Upland system (Saryarka). The dry alluvial plain at the mouth of the Tokrau river lies to the east of the range. The nearest airport is Balkhash Airport. There are rock formations, caves and rock pools in different spots of the Bektauata area. The largest cave is {{convert|48|m|sp=us}} in length. The inner part of the cave is full of water to a depth of {{convert|1.5|m|sp=us}}.
The highest point of the Bektauata is a {{convert|1213|m|sp=us}} high summit named after the range. Other important peaks are Sarykulzha —{{convert|1082|m|sp=us}}, two-peaked Konyrkulzha —{{convert|976|m|sp=us}} (western summit), Karashoky —{{convert|893|m|sp=us}} and Zhaltas —{{convert|824|m|sp=us}}.{{cite web|url=https://maps.vlasenko.net/smtm1000/l-43.jpg|title=L-43 Chart (in Russian)|access-date=22 September 2022}}Google Earth
