While she had been already cast as the photographer Clara Nadal for the series Periodistas she was called to briefly play the same character of Clara Nadal in the popular dramedy Médico de familia (also produced by Globomedia) as a sort of emergency casting to cover a leave on absence,{{Cite web|url=https://www.revistavanityfair.es/cultura/entretenimiento/articulos/belen-rueda-actril/28827|website=Vanity Fair|title=Belén Rueda, la estrella total del cine español|first=Juan|last=Sanguino|date=14 February 2018}} and thus the latter marked her debut as a television actress in 1997 (and both fictions became connected in the same fictional universe).{{Cite web|url=https://www.canarias7.es/hemeroteca/belen_rueda_premio_especial_a_la_contribucion_artistica_en_la_ficcion_televisiva_de_los_mim_series_2016-EECSN440253|website=Canarias7|title=Belén Rueda, Premio Especial a la Contribución Artística en la Ficción Televisiva de los MiM Series 2016|date=2 November 201}}{{Cite web|url=https://www.lne.es/tv-espectaculos/2012/06/05/acuerdas-empezo-carrera-belen-rueda-20861796.html|website=La Nueva España|title=Te acuerdas de... cómo empezó su carrera Belén Rueda|date=5 June 2012}} She went then on to play the character of Clara Nadal in Periodistas from 1998 to 2002.

Starting in 2003 and over the course of six seasons and 107 episodes, Rueda performed the role of Lucía Gómez in the popular series Los Serrano, leaving the series in 2007 reportedly to focus on her stage career.{{Cite web|url=https://elpais.com/diario/2007/03/06/radiotv/1173135602_850215.html|website=El País|title='Los Serrano' despide a Belén Rueda con un adiós "a lo grande"|date=6 March 2007|first=Techu|last=Baragaño}}
