In 1924 Mary G. Gray gave an interview for American Lawn Tennis,American Lawn Tennis, 'A Bermuda Tournament in 1876', Mary Gray, 15 September 1924, p.534 then a book published by the United States Lawn Tennis Association in which she spoke of a tennis tournament she played in at Hamilton, Bermuda,American Lawn Tennis the story was subsequently published under the chapter heading 'A Bermuda Tournament in 1876' On 15 September 1924.American Lawn Tennis On 3 September 1876 a women's tennis tournament was held in Hamilton, Bermuda,{{cite book |last1=King |first1=Billie Jean |title=We have come a long way : the story of women's tennis |date=1988 |publisher=McGraw-Hill |location=New York |isbn=978-0070346253 |page=5}} that was won by Mary G. Gray who defeated Rose Key.

Earlier in 1876 in Ireland an All Ireland Lawn Tennis Championships,.Fein (2009) organised by the Irish Champion Athletic Club, Dublin was also held between the 17 and 22 July that year.Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News (Saturday 22 July 1876).
