Bertram Nelson CBE (1905–1984) was a senior partner at Lithgow Nelson & Co and as President of the Society of Incorporated Accountants played a leading role in its amalgamation with the ICAEW{{cite book |last1=Parker |first1=Robert |title=Major contributors to the British accountancy profession: A biographical sourcebook |date=2012 |publisher=ICAS |isbn=978-1-904574-85-9 |page=77 |url=http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~sazeff/Major%20Contributors.pdf}} in 1957. His wide variety of roles reflected his interest in supporting the development of the accountancy profession as well as business, education and the arts in Liverpool :
