Big Fat Snake is a Danish pop/rock music group that was founded in 1990.
Peter Viskinde and Anders Blichfeldt first met in 1988 for the recording of a demo tape for the band "The Werners" that later changed name to "Verners Verdensorkester" ("Verner's World Orchestra").{{cite web|url=http://www.discogs.com/artist/Big+Fat+Snake |title=Big Fat Snake at Discogs |publisher=Discogs|accessdate=17 January 2012}} The band soon fell apart due to lack of audience. They later formed a new band named after the lyrics of the Bob Dylan song "Wiggle Wiggle" and released their first album Big Fat Snake in 1991. Throughout the '90s, they released several records and built up a devoted audience in Denmark.
In 1997, the band's original bass player, Jacob Perbøll, quit the band and was replaced by Asger Steenholdt. In 2003 they recorded a live album, "One Night of Sin", together with the original Elvis Presley TCB Band and The Sweet Inspirations.
On 3 March 2009, it was announced that Peter Viskinde had left the band due to disagreements with the other bands members; in particular, lead singer Anders Blichfeldt.{{cite news|url=http://ekstrabladet.dk/musik/dkmusiknyt/article1134493.ece |author1= Søren Frandsen|author2= Marie Lade |title=Viskinde smidt ud af Big Fat Snake|date= 3 March 2009 |language=Danish |newspaper=Ekstra Bladet |trans-title=Viskinde kicked out of Big Fat Snake |publisher=Ekstrabladet.dk |accessdate=17 January 2012}} Viskinde then released the album Reel 1 under the Big Fat Snake name, claiming he owned the rights to it. A period of media war ensued, during which there existed two bands with the name.{{cite news |url=http://ekstrabladet.dk/musik/dkmusiknyt/article1135334.ece |author=Andersen, Jens |title=Største pik i Big Fat Snake |date=5 March 2009 |language=Danish |newspaper=Ekstra Bladet |trans-title=Biggest dick in Big Fat Snake |publisher=Ekstrabladet.dk |accessdate=17 January 2012}}{{cite news |url=http://ekstrabladet.dk/musik/dkmusiknyt/article1168903.ece |author= Lykke, Allan |title=Viskinde: Jeg har ret til slange-navnet|date= 17 May 2009 |language=Danish |newspaper=Ekstra Bladet |trans-title=I have the right to the snake name |publisher=Ekstrabladet.dk |accessdate=17 January 2012}}{{cite news |url=http://ekstrabladet.dk/nationen/article1171639.ece |author= Harder, Thomas |title=Retten skal afgøre, hvis der er størst|date= 22 May 2009 |language=Danish |newspaper=Ekstra Bladet |trans-title=Courts will decide if there is a biggest |publisher=Ekstrabladet.dk |accessdate=17 January 2012}}{{cite news |url=http://ekstrabladet.dk/musik/dkmusiknyt/article1171792.ece |author= Lykke, Allan |title=Nyt slag i krigen om den fede slange|date=23 May 2009 |language=Danish |newspaper=Ekstra Bladet |trans-title=New battle in the war of fat snake |publisher=Ekstrabladet.dk |accessdate=17 January 2012}}{{cite news |url=http://ekstrabladet.dk/musik/dkmusiknyt/article1177410.ece |author= Pattern, Flemming |title=Stadig ufred i Big Fat Snake|date=4 June 2009 |language=Danish |newspaper=Ekstra Bladet |trans-title=Still strife in Big Fat Snake |publisher=Ekstrabladet.dk |accessdate=17 January 2012}} On 16 June 2009, the band name was given to the original band members in an out-of-court settlement, where Viskinde agreed to use another name for his new band.{{cite news |url=http://ekstrabladet.dk/musik/dkmusiknyt/article1182517.ece |author=Rohde-Brøndum, Jakob |title=Big Fat Snake-krigen er slut|date=16 June 2009 |language=Danish |newspaper=Ekstra Bladet |trans-title=Big Fat Snake war is over |publisher=Ekstrabladet.dk |accessdate=17 January 2012}} He chose the name Sheriff.{{cite news|url=http://ekstrabladet.dk/musik/dkmusiknyt/article1184464.ece |author= Lade, Marie |title=Viskinde bliver til Sheriffen|date= 22 June 2009 |language=Danish |newspaper=Ekstra Bladet |trans-title=Viskinde becomes Sheriff |publisher=Ekstrabladet.dk |accessdate=17 January 2012}}
