Early life

Bill Dovers was educated at Newington College (1959–1969), commencing as a preparatory school student in Wyvern House,Newington College Register of Past Students 1863–1998 (Syd, 1999) pp54 before entering the Royal Australian Naval College in 1970.

Naval career

Dovers has served aboard the Australian warships {{HMAS|Swan|DE50|6}}, {{HMAS|Melbourne|R21|6}}, {{HMAS|Anzac|D59|6}}, {{HMAS|Vendetta|D08|6}}, and {{HMAS|Duchess|D154|6}}, along with American destroyer {{USS|Cochrane|DDG-21|6}}.
