Blauwgrond is a resort in Suriname, located in the Paramaribo District. Its population at the 2012 census was 31,483.[http://www.statoids.com/ysr.html Statoids.com] Blauwgrond started as a Javanese village to the north of Paramaribo. During the 1960s and 1970s, large scale building projects turned the village into a neighbourhood of Paramaribo,{{cite web|url=https://dbnl.org/tekst/binn011sran01_01/binn011sran01_01_0007.php|title=Sranan. Cultuur in Suriname|date=1992|access-date=28 May 2020|language=nl|website= Digital Library for Dutch Literature}} and is mainly known as the Javanese culinary centre with many warungs and restaurants.{{cite web|url=https://werkgroepcaraibischeletteren.nl/the-blauwgrond-experience/|title=The Blauwgrond Experience|website=Werkgroup Caraïbische Letteres|access-date=28 May 2020|language=nl}} The resort was called Blauwgrond (English: Blue Ground), because the earth had a bluish colour.

Leonsberg is a former coffee plantation in the northern part of Blauwgrond. It was founded by A. Léon in 1819.{{cite web|url=https://www.surinameplantages.com/archief/l/leonsberg|title=Plantage Leonsberg|access-date=28 May 2020|language=nl}} At Leonsberg there is a ferry to Nieuw-Amsterdam.
