A book tour is a promotion for a newly published book in which the author tours a region to do bookselling, present to the media, and meet the people who would read the book. Three objectives of any presentation on a book tour are to entertain the audience, serve the interest of whichever institution is hosting the presentation, and to sell books in person at the presentation.{{cite web|last1=Sambuchino|first1=Chuck|title=How to Plan a Book Tour and Sell More Books|url=http://www.writersdigest.com/editor-blogs/guide-to-literary-agents/books-tours-7-things-i-learned-about-marketing-books|website=Writer's Digest|date=9 November 2012}} Authors have a range of opinions about the effectiveness of book tours.{{cite web|last1=Gallaway|first1=Matthew|title=Nine Writers and Publicists Tell All About Readings and Book Tours|url=https://www.theawl.com/2012/04/nine-writers-and-publicists-tell-all-about-readings-and-book-tours/|website=The Awl|language=en|date=10 April 2012}}{{cite web|last1=Cylinder|first1=Carly|title=What It's Like to Be on a Book Tour|url=https://www.huffingtonpost.com/carly-cylinder/what-its-like-to-be-on-a-_1_b_10101986.html|website=Huffington Post|date=24 May 2016}}
