By 1667 it had been adopted as a "County Bridge". A marker stone was installed to show the area on either side of the bridge which was the responsibility of the local Justices of the Peace. It can still be seen near the White Horse Inn.{{cite web|title=Bridges along the River Tone |url=http://www.ice.org.uk/ICE_Web_Portal/media/southwest/Final-Bridges-along-the-River-Tone.pdf |publisher=Institution of civil engineers |accessdate=2 November 2014 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20141111143114/http://www.ice.org.uk/ICE_Web_Portal/media/southwest/Final-Bridges-along-the-River-Tone.pdf |archivedate=11 November 2014 }}
