The Brasinca Uirapuru was a GT-class sports coupe manufactured in Brazil between 1964 and 1966. Only 77 examples of the model were ever made because of the high production costs.{{cite web|title=Clássicos Grandes Brasileiros|url=http://quatrorodas.abril.com.br/classicos/brasileiros/conteudo_139340.shtml|website=quatrodas|year=2005|access-date=26 March 2014|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150402202844/http://quatrorodas.abril.com.br/classicos/brasileiros/conteudo_139340.shtml|archive-date=2 April 2015|language=pt-BR}}
History
Originally named the 4200 GT, the Uirapuru was developed to showcase and promote the capabilities of Brasinca, who built trucks as well as stamped car parts for other manufacturers. 77 cars were made in total from 1964 to 1966, including three convertibles, when Brasinca shut it down due to high manufacturing costs.
The Uirapuru bears a strong resemblance to the Jensen Interceptor, which entered production the same year that Uirapuru production ended, with many saying that the Interceptor took styling cues from the Uirapuru.{{Cite web|url=https://www.classiccars4sale.net/classic-car-review/aa-jensen-interceptor|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20111015155504/http://www.classiccars4sale.net/classic-car-review/aa-jensen-interceptor|url-status=dead|archive-date=October 15, 2011|title=Jensen Interceptor - Classic Car Reviews - Classic Motoring Magazine|publisher=MS Publications Ltd.|date=2001|website=classiccars4sale.net|access-date=2018-07-26}}
Performance
Unlike many other sports cars of its time that used fiberglass bodies, the Uirapuru had a hand built sheet steel body placed on a bespoke monoblock frame. The Uirapuru was also one of the first Brazilian cars to undergo wind tunnel testing in the Aeronautical Technological Institute (ITA), in São José dos Campos. The original 4200 GT was powered by a 6-cylinder 4271 cc Chevrolet truck engine which used three SU carburetors and produced {{cvt|155|hp|kW}}.
The later 4200 S had {{cvt|163|hp|kW}} thanks to Iskenderian valve control and the 4200 GTS had {{cvt|170|hp|kW}}. The 4200 GT accelerated from {{cvt|0-100|km/h|mph}} in 10.4 seconds and could reach a top speed of around {{cvt|200|km/h|mph}}.{{Cite web|url=http://bestcars.uol.com.br/classicos/brasinca-3.htm|title=Best Cars Web Site - Carros do Passado - Brasinca 4200 GT/Uirapuru|website=bestcars.uol.com.br|access-date=2018-04-12|archive-date=2018-04-12|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180412213931/http://bestcars.uol.com.br/classicos/brasinca-3.htm|url-status=dead|language=pt-BR}}
