Tonelero (S21) was an Oberon-class submarine in the Brazilian Navy.
Design and construction
{{main|Oberon-class submarine}}
The submarine, built by Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering at their shipyard in Barrow, was laid down on 18 November 1971, and launched on 22 November 1972.{{cite book |editor=Moore, John |title=Jane's Fighting Ships 1977-78 |edition=80th |year=1977 |series=Jane's Fighting Ships |publisher=Jane's Yearbooks |location=London |isbn=0531032779 |oclc=18207174 |page=44}} During construction, a fire seriously damaged the submarine. The submarine was towed to Chatham Dockyard, where the {{convert|60|ft|adj=on}} central section was cut out and replaced. The fire was found to have originated in the cabling, and prompted the recabling of all under-construction Oberons.{{cite book |editor=Sharpe, Richard |title=Jane's Fighting Ships 1998-99 |series=Jane's Fighting Ships |publisher=Jane's Information Group |location=Coulsdon, Surrey |date=1998 |edition=101st |isbn=071061795X |oclc=39372676 |page=58}} She was commissioned into the Brazilian Navy on 10 December 1977.
