The Hollywood Reporter gave the film a positive review: "In any case, audiences should enjoy seeing Grammer playing a Brit with such relaxed nonchalance, and his scenes with the versatile comedienne and stage actress Greig are thoroughly delightful."{{cite magazine|author=THR Staff|title=‘Breaking the Bank’: Dubai Review|date=December 21, 2014|magazine=The Hollywood Reporter|url=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-reviews/breaking-bank-dubai-review-759475/|accessdate=November 26, 2021|archive-date=November 26, 2021|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20211126094902/https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-reviews/breaking-bank-dubai-review-759475/|url-status=live}}

Mark Adams of Screen Daily gave the film a negative review and wrote, "...despite the best efforts of Grammer and co-star Tamsin Greig this old-fashioned effort rarely clicks, with the muddled script offering nice ideas but little follow-through.”{{cite web|last=Adams|first=Mark|title=Breaking The Bank|date=December 16, 2014|website=Screen Daily|url=https://www.screendaily.com/breaking-the-bank/5081183.article|accessdate=November 26, 2021}}
