History

The award was first presented in 1989 as International Male Solo Artist. The accolade was not handed out at the 1990, 1992 and 1993 ceremonies, with the award for International Solo Artist (given to a male or female artist) being awarded instead.{{cite web|url=http://www.brits.co.uk/history/shows/1992|title=1992 Brit Awards|work=Brits.co.uk|publisher=British Phonographic Industry (BPI)|access-date=3 March 2014}}{{cite web|url=http://www.brits.co.uk/history/shows/1993|title=1993 Brit Awards|work=Brits.co.uk|publisher=British Phonographic Industry (BPI)|access-date=3 March 2014}} The award for International Male Solo Artist was reinstated in 1994, and has been given ever since.{{cite news |url=https://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2012/feb/22/brit-awards-winners-list-2012 |title=Brit awards winners list 2012: every winner since 1977 |work=The Guardian |publisher=Guardian Media Group|first=Simon |last=Rogers |date=12 February 2012 |access-date=3 March 2014}}
