College career

Alberts arrived at Gonzaga in 2014, redshirting his first season due to injury. In April 2017, Alberts reached the NCAA Division I Championship Game with Gonzaga.{{Cite news|url=http://www.nu.nl/sport-overig/4587876/international-bryan-alberts-bereikt-finale-college-basketbal-met-gonzaga.html|title=International Bryan Alberts bereikt finale college basketbal met Gonzaga |publisher=Nu.nl|language=Dutch|date=2 April 2017}}

Shortly after the end of that season, Alberts announced that he planned to transfer from Gonzaga. At the time, he was expecting to earn his bachelor's degree in economics in August 2017 (and ultimately did so), making him immediately eligible to play for another NCAA Division I school under the NCAA's graduate transfer rule. Unlike most players who have taken advantage of the rule, he was eligible for two more seasons.{{cite news|url=http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/19152062/guard-bryan-alberts-transfer-gonzaga |title=Gonzaga reserve guard Bryan Alberts to graduate, transfer |agency=Associated Press |work=ESPN.com |date=April 13, 2017 |accessdate=July 6, 2017}} On August 12, 2017, Alberts announced he would attend Long Beach State, where was coached by Dan Monson, who coincidentally preceded Mark Few as Gonzaga's head coach.{{cite news|url=http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/aug/12/ex-zag-bryan-alberts-joining-dan-monson-at-long-be/ |title=Ex-Gonzaga wing Bryan Alberts joining Dan Monson at Long Beach State |first=Jim |last=Meehan |newspaper=The Spokesman-Review |location=Spokane, Washington |date=August 12, 2017 |accessdate=August 12, 2017}} He averaged 11.3 points per game as a junior.{{cite news |last1=Grosbard |first1=Adam |title=Long Beach State men's basketball hoping revamped defense leads to strong season |url=https://www.dailynews.com/2018/11/03/long-beach-state-mens-basketball-hoping-revamped-defense-leads-to-strong-season/ |accessdate=November 12, 2020 |work=Los Angeles Daily News |date=November 3, 2018}} As a senior, Alberts averaged 10.5 points per game.{{cite web |title=Black And Blue Rivalry Rematch Set For Semifinals |url=https://longbeachstate.com/news/2019/3/15/mens-basketball-black-and-blue-rivalry-rematch-set-for-semifinals |website=Long Beach State Beach |accessdate=November 12, 2020 |date=March 15, 2019}}
