Burke Frederick St John Trend, Baron Trend, {{postnominals|country=GBR|size=100%|sep=,|GCB|CVO|PC}} (2 January 1914 – 21 July 1987){{cite web |last=Lundy |first=Darryl |url=http://www.thepeerage.com/p19192.htm |title= Burke St John Trend, Baron Trend |publisher= The Peerage}}{{Unreliable source?|failed=y |date=September 2012}} was a British civil servant and later Rector of Lincoln College, Oxford.

Biography

Trend was educated at Whitgift School and Merton College, Oxford, where he took first class honours in Classics.{{cite book|editor1-last=Levens|editor1-first=R.G.C.|title=Merton College Register 1900-1964|date=1964|publisher=Basil Blackwell|location=Oxford|page=239}} He then joined the Civil Service, spending most of his career in the Treasury. He became Cabinet Secretary under Alec Douglas-Home, Harold Wilson and Ted Heath between 1963 and 1973.

Trend was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in the 1953 Coronation Honours.{{London Gazette |issue=39863 |date=1 June 1953 |page=2947 |supp=y}} He was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 1955 New Year Honours,{{London Gazette |issue=40366 |date=1 January 1955 |page=4 |supp=y}} promoted to Knight Commander (KCB) in the 1962 Birthday Honours{{London Gazette |issue=42683 |date=2 June 1962 |page=4309 |supp=y}} and a Knight Grand Cross in the 1968 New Year Honours.{{London Gazette |issue=44484 |date=1 January 1968 |page=3 |supp=y}} On 7 March 1974 he was created a life peer as Baron Trend, of Greenwich in Greater London.{{London Gazette |issue=46231 |date=11 March 1974 |page=3167}}

He led an investigation in the 1970s into allegations of penetration of the British Secret Services from before World War II until the 1960s. Trend married Patricia Charlotte Shaw in 1949; they had three children. One son, Michael Trend, was a Member of Parliament (Conservative) from 1992 to 2005.
