Burkholderia humptydooensis is a gram-negative bacterium isolated from bore water in Australia's Northern Territory during routine screening for B. pseudomallei. Although it exhibits similarities in form and biochemical properties to B. pseudomallei and B. thailandensis, molecular analyses confirmed it as a distinct species within the B. pseudomallei complex.{{Cite journal |last=Tuanyok |first=Apichai |last2=Mayo |first2=Mark |last3=Scholz |first3=Holger |last4=Hall |first4=Carina M. |last5=Allender |first5=Christopher J. |last6=Kaestli |first6=Mirjam |last7=Ginther |first7=Jennifer |last8=Spring-Pearson |first8=Senanu |last9=Bollig |first9=Molly C. |last10=Stone |first10=Joshua K. |last11=Settles |first11=Erik W. |last12=Busch |first12=Joseph D. |last13=Sidak-Loftis |first13=Lindsay |last14=Sahl |first14=Jason W. |last15=Thomas |first15=Astrid |date=March 2017 |editor-last=Schaffner |editor-first=Donald W. |title=Burkholderia humptydooensis sp. nov., a New Species Related to Burkholderia thailandensis and the Fifth Member of the Burkholderia pseudomallei Complex |url=https://journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/AEM.02802-16 |journal=Applied and Environmental Microbiology |language=en |volume=83 |issue=5 |doi=10.1128/AEM.02802-16 |issn=0099-2240 |pmc=5311406 |pmid=27986727}}
