"Burning Bridges" is a song written by Walter Scott, and best known for its 1960 recording by Jack Scott, which was a #3 hit in the US. This was the only hit song for composer Walter Scott, who was no relation to Jack Scott.{{cite web | url=https://www.wvxu.org/media/2015-08-19/burning-bridges-composer-walter-scott-dies-at-89 | title='Burning Bridges' Composer Walter Scott Dies at 89 | date=19 August 2015 }}He is also NOT the same Walter Scott who was the vocalist for Bob Kuban and The In-Men.
The song was originally recorded by a relatively obscure country act called The Home Towners in 1957, but did not chart. Recorded by Jack Scott in 1960, "Burning Bridges" reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 5 on the U.S. R&B chart, and No. 32 on the UK Singles Chart in 1960.{{cite web|title=Jack Scott, "Burning Bridges" Chart Positions|url=http://musicvf.com/song.php?title=Burning+Bridges+by+Jack+Scott&id=20341|access-date=February 19, 2019}} The single was produced by Sonny Lester.{{cite web|title=Jack Scott, "Burning Bridges" Single Release|website=Discogs |year=1960 |url=https://www.discogs.com/Jack-Scott-Burning-Bridges-Oh-Little-One/release/1314507|access-date=February 19, 2019}} It was featured on his 1960 album What in the World's Come Over You.;{{cite web|title=Jack Scott, What in the World's Come Over You|website=Discogs |year=1960 |url=https://www.discogs.com/Jack-Scott-What-In-The-Worlds-Come-Over-You/release/3030113|access-date=February 19, 2019}}
