Biography

Byun made about 90 films in a career that spans more than 30 years. His film Love Me Once Again Despite Hatred '80 (1980) is one of the greatest box office hits in 1980.{{cite web|title=BYUN Jang-ho|url=http://www.koreanfilm.or.kr/jsp/films/index/peopleView.jsp?peopleCd=10031373|website=Korean Film Biz Zone|accessdate=1 February 2016}}{{cite web|first1=Darcy |last1=Paquet |title=What were the greatest box office hits from 1974 to 2008 |url=http://www.koreafilm.org/feature/ans_5.asp |website=www.koreanfilm.org |accessdate=1 February 2016 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160127072046/http://www.koreafilm.org/feature/ans_5.asp |archivedate=27 January 2016 }}

Jang-ho was born on 27 April 1940.Byun Jang-ho's birthdate: movie.naver.com [http://movie.naver.com/movie/bi/pi/basic.nhn?code=1812] gave the 1940 date in the introduction, but the text said he was born in 1935. Two articles said he was born in 1939 [http://news.joins.com/article/2555807][http://www.mygoyang.com/news/articleView.html?idxno=31889]. However, Daum agrees with the 1940 birthdate [http://movie.daum.net/movieperson/Summary.do?personId=308]. All the news articles from when he was named to the National Academy of Arts in 2012 agree that he was 72 at the time [http://news.kmib.co.kr/article/view.asp?arcid=0006217931&code=11110000&sid1=kim][http://news.joins.com/article/8675448]. Similarly he won an art award from Goyang City in 2007 and the article said he was 67 at the time [http://www.kihoilbo.co.kr/?mod=news&act=articleView&idxno=265364&page=1223&total=25668]. It seemed the 1940 date is more likely to be correct. Researched by User 58.176.246.42. His film Potato (1988) is a remake of a 1967 film and the second adaptation of Kim Dong-in's short novel of the same name. It won Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Music at the 26th Grand Bell Awards in 1987.{{cite web|first1=Darcy|last1=Paquet|title=Potato (1987) review|url=http://www.koreanfilm.org/kfilm80s.html#potato|website=www.koreanfilm.org|accessdate=1 February 2016}}
