Its source is in the Cévennes mountains, near Saint-André-Capcèze. It flows through Bessèges, Saint-Ambroix, Bagnols-sur-Cèze, and it flows into the Rhône at Codolet, southwest of Orange.

Its longest tributaries are the Luech, Auzon, Tave, Ganière and Aiguillon.
