Despite his relative inexperience, he hoped to compete in the 2007 Indianapolis 500 for SWE,{{cite web|url=http://www.crash.net/indycar/news/24172/1/ips-crews-joins-swe-targets-indy-500|title=IPS: Crews joins SWE, targets Indy 500.|date=7 December 2006|work=Crash.net|accessdate=2017-11-07}} but his deal with the team fell through. He was then linked to securing an entry for the 2008 Indianapolis 500.
