C2 Pictures was an American independent media-entertainment company that specialized in film and television production.

History

The company was established in 1998 by Carolco Pictures co-founders Andrew G. Vajna (who had formed Cinergi Pictures until it folded in this same year) and Mario Kassar.{{Cite web|last1=Petrikin|first1=Chris|last2=Carver|first2=Benedict|date=1998-03-27|title=Kassar & Vajna redux|url=https://variety.com/1998/biz/news/kassar-vajna-redux-1117469201/|access-date=2021-06-01|website=Variety|language=en-US}} In 1999, VCL Communications and Toho-Towa were attached as partners on the then-upcoming feature film Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.{{Cite web|last=Harris|first=Dana|date=2000-07-12|title=Cameron won't be back|url=https://variety.com/2000/film/news/cameron-won-t-be-back-1117783604/|access-date=2021-12-11|website=Variety|language=en-US}} The company assigned Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer the right to co-produce Basic Instinct 2.{{Cite web|last=DiOrio|first=Carl|date=2000-08-16|title=Lion rolls dice|url=https://variety.com/2000/film/news/lion-rolls-dice-1117785185/|access-date=2021-12-11|website=Variety|language=en-US}} Both sequels were co-produced by international backer Intermedia.{{Cite web|last=DiOrio|first=Carl|date=2003-07-06|title=Arnold's back but B.O. isn't|url=https://variety.com/2003/film/box-office/arnold-s-back-but-b-o-isn-t-1117888875/|access-date=2021-12-11|website=Variety|language=en-US}}

The company's first production was action comedy film I Spy (2002). Though this film was the company's first, Kassar and Vajna's initial purpose for forming the new company was to resurrect the Terminator franchise.[https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0440830/bio Mario Kassar - Biography] In 2008, the company fell into dormancy and eventually was dissolved.{{Cite web |date=2021-11-09 |title=Carolco Films: Another Independent Story Of Success And Demise |url=https://insessionfilm.com/carolco-films/ |access-date=2024-05-29 |website=InSession Film |language=en-US}}
