History

In 2008, Rogers was licensed to operate a second radio station at Beeton with the callsign CJBT-FM. Not yet on the air, that station had until August 1, 2012 to launch, or face the cancellation of the license.[http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2011/2011-748.htm Broadcasting Information Bulletin CRTC 2011-748, December 6, 2011.]

In 2009, CFAO began on-air testing.[http://www.madhunt.com/cfao-947-alliston-20090615.html "New Alliston FM radio station begins testing period on air"], madhunt.com, June 15, 2009 It is uncertain when the station officially launched.

As of June 25, 2010, CFAO has been shut down due to economic troubles, which led to the station's eviction from its rented studios; also during these final days of operation, the station was unable to pay wages to its staffers.[http://www.madhunt.com/cfao-off-the-air-20100712.htm "CFAO off the air"], madhunt.com, July 12, 2010[http://www.fybush.com/NERW/2010/100719/nerw.html#can "North of Toronto, CFAO (94.7 Alliston) has run into some pretty big obstacles"], Scott Fybush/Northeast Radio Watch, July 19, 2010

In 2013, Rogers sought renewal of CFAO's license;[http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2014/2014-474.htm Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2014-474, September 12, 2014] however, on December 19, 2014, the CRTC denied the station's renewal, citing many violations, including remaining dark since 2011, and failing to meet numerous target dates to resume broadcasting - the most recent being April 1, 2014. An intervention report from My Broadcasting Corporation, owner of competing station CIMA-FM, cited that CFAO was only on the air for 11 months at most.[http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2014/2014-667.htm Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2014-667], CFAO-FM Alliston - Licence renewal (denied), CRTC, December 19, 2014
