Caesium permanganate is the permanganate salt of caesium, with the chemical formula {{chem2|CsMnO4}}.

Preparation

Caesium permanganate can be formed by the reaction of potassium permanganate and caesium nitrate:

:{{chem2| CsNO3 + KMnO4 -> KNO3 + CsMnO4 ↓ }}

Similar to potassium permanganate, the two-step decomposition of caesium permanganate leads to the formation of caesium manganate intermediates. It breaks down into manganese dioxide, caesium oxide and oxygen.{{Cite journal |last1=Beck |first1=Michael W. |last2=Brown |first2=Michael E. |date=Jul 1983 |title=Thermal analysis of antimony/potassium permanganate pyrotechnic compositions |url=https://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/0040603183800227 |journal=Thermochimica Acta |language=en |volume=65 |issue=2–3 |pages=197–212 |doi=10.1016/0040-6031(83)80022-7}} The decomposition temperature is between 200 and 300 °C.{{citation|author=Z.
