The interior of the café was renewed in 1951{{cite web|url=https://www.hs.fi/kaupunki/art-2000005559032.html|title=Legendaarisen Ekbergin konditorian remontti Bulevardilla tyrmistyttää asiakkaita: "Olette antaneet aivan uuden syvyyden käsitteille mauttomuus ja kulttuurihistoriallinen katastrofi"|last=Lohilahti|first=Oona|work=Helsingin Sanomat|date=9 February 2018|access-date=11 September 2024|language=fi|url-access=subscription}} and renovated in 2016.{{cite web|url=https://www.hs.fi/kaupunki/art-2000005559218.html|title=Suunnittelija vetäytyi Ekbergin konditorian remontista kesken projektin: "Nyt on tuhottu jotain, mitä ei ikinä saa takaisin"|last=Lohilahti|first=Oona|work=Helsingin Sanomat|date=9 February 2018|access-date=11 September 2024|language=fi|url-access=subscription}} This latter renovation destroyed much of the cafe's original decor, receiving both condemnations from the locals and media attention. The current owner of the café is Otto Ekberg, who is a descendant of Fredrik Ekberg.
