On August 7, 2020, Potter announced his retirement from mixed martial arts {{cite web | url=https://www.instagram.com/p/CDlQTFqJgdG/ | title=Callan on Instagram: "Hello friends Firstly just want to take the time to say I hope all are safe, healthy and staying strong in this strange time πŸ™πŸΌ I'm putting this post out there as a chance to announce I will be finishing up my career in professional Mixed Martial Arts, no definitive reasons other than it's just the right thing and time to move into the next phase of my life I will always be part of this sport till the day they throw dirt on me, what can I say I'm obsessed ☺️ There are a ton of people I need to thank and I will make time in person, but just a couple I would like to highlight Jamie Murray: My life long head coach, has been with me since Fight one and tied every BJJ belt around my waist, gave me the opportunity to pursue this as a career and I'm eternally thankful. Andrew Colgrave: My head striking coach who took my approach as a fighter to a whole new level, didn't have much to work with as far as natural ability goes and still made me a champion. Daniel Kelly : What can I say, this man not only got to see the changes I went through in my career, but was a driving force behind it, will be forever grateful for this man as a colleague, a coach and a friend. Someone who I will happily endure as long as he'll have me. And of course my gorgeous family, particularly my girl Samantha Haynes Anyone who is envolved in this sport knows just how much of a selfish endeavour it is and she has supported me unrelentingly for almost 10yrs, she's gone through the high lows, win losses and weight cuts that I do and deserves as much credit for my career as anyone. I look forward to participating in this amazing sport in many different ways in years to come and hope you guys have as many fond memories of my biffo as I do. Will keep this page active with plenty of MMA content. See you all around the traps, stay strong, stay happy and keep punching ❀️" }}

Personal life

Just before announcing his retirement, Potter started coaching at Dan Kelly's team Resilience Training Centre.
