History

In the 1930s, following the development of Lastex rubberized yarns for swimwear, the resulting exposure of the pubic-area outline resulted in manufacturers adding a "modesty panel" to women's swimsuits to conceal the camel toe; this persisted through the 1950s.{{cite web |last1=Ibbotson |first1=Fiona |title=A History of Women's Swimwear |url=https://fashionhistory.fitnyc.edu/a-history-of-womens-swimwear/ |website=Fashion history timeline |publisher=Fashion Institute of Technology |access-date=12 April 2022}}
