History
Camella was founded by Manuel B. Villar, Jr. in August 1977. Villar took out a seven-year loan from a rural bank offering low interest rates then kick-started building and selling at his first project, Camella Homes Phase 1 and 2 in Las Piñas, with 160 units initially.{{cite web|url=https://www.philstar.com/ArticlePrinterFriendly.aspx?articleId=523297|title=Cynthia Villar on Manny, the presidency & what her father taught her|website=Philippine Star|author=Tanya T. This initiated the mass housing projects through economies of scale, utilizing the cost advantages of developing a large-scale project to bring down housing prices. Camella has since become the country's largest home building company.{{cite web|url=http://edition.cnn.com/ASIANOW/asiaweek/95/0818/biz1.html|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230407041238/http://edition.cnn.com/ASIANOW/asiaweek/95/0818/biz1.html|url-status=dead|archive-date=April 7, 2023|title=Mr. Billion How Cheap Homes Made A Filipino Rich|website=CNN|date=November 30, 2021|access-date=January 28, 2021}}{{cite web|url=http://legacy.senate.gov.ph/senators/sen_bio/villar_bio.asp|title=Senator Manny Villar|website=Senate Of The Philippines|access-date=January 28, 2021}}

Controversies
= Monopolization of Internet connectivity =
In March 2021, the homeowner associations of the Camella Cerritos Heights and Lessandra Heights residential subdivision developments in Bacoor, Cavite protested the prohibition of Internet service providers competing against sister company Planet Cable (now Streamtech) from operating in their neighborhoods.{{Cite news |url= https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1405296/homeowners-group-in-cavite-ask-pcc-to-break-monopoly-of-internet-provider |title= Homeowners’ group in Cavite asks PCC to break ‘monopoly’ of internet provider |date= March 10, 2021 |author= JPV |access-date= October 30, 2024 |work= INQUIRER.net |publisher= Inquirer Group of Companies |location= Manila }}
In a letter to the National Telecommunications Commission, Cerritos Heights Homeowners Association Inc. (CHHAI) president Toteng Tanglao wrote about the unavailability of ISPs aside from Planet Cable due to right of way issues and lack of permits given to build broadband lines inside Cerritos Heights Phases 1 and 2, Cerritos Terraces and Cerritos Hills Phases 1, 2 and 3.{{Cite news |url= https://manilastandard.net/?p=348339 |title= Cerritos Heights residents hit Planet Cable’s monopoly |date= March 2, 2021 |work= Manila Standard |access-date= October 30, 2024 |publisher= Philippine Manila Standard Publishing, Inc. |location= Makati }} This was forwarded to the Philippine Competition Commission. Camella did not respond to their initial request, as well as to the same from Lani Mercado, the Mayor of Bacoor.
Furthermore, a team of armed security guards blocked personnel of Globe Telecom, a subsidiary of conglomerate Ayala Corporation, from installing Internet access cables the May of the same year.{{Cite news |url= https://manilastandard.net/?p=355770 |title= More internet providers sought for Cavite village |date= May 29, 2021 |work= Manila Standard |access-date= October 30, 2024 |publisher= Philippine Manila Standard Publishing, Inc. |location= Makati }}{{Cite news |url= https://www.abante.com.ph/2021/05/28/basbas-ng-homeowners-tablado-globe-hinarang-sa-camella-homes/ |title= Basbas ng homeowners tablado! Camella responded to the petition by releasing a set of policies clarifying and formalizing the process for accepting entry of other providers. PLDT had since then sent the CHHAI initial plans to service their area.{{Cite news |url= https://bilyonaryo.com/2022/02/06/camella-homes-residents-rejoice-as-they-await-entry-of-other-isp-providers-pldt-globe/business/ |date= February 6, 2022 |access-date= October 30, 2024 |work= Bilyonaryo |publisher= Prage |location= Quezon City |title= Camella Homes residents rejoice as they await entry of other ISP providers PLDT, Globe |last= Mencias |first= Eileen }}{{Cite news |url= https://unbox.ph/news/camella-homes-residents-finally-getting-pldt-globe-connections/ |title= Camella Homes Residents Finally Getting PLDT, Globe Connections |date= February 7, 2022 |last= Ople |first= Carlo |work= Unbox PH |access-date= October 30, 2024 |publisher= Prage |location= Quezon City }}
