Despite a rough start for the under-18 side because of injury, at the start of the 2012–13 season he became a regular for the under-21s and scored three goals in the U21 Premier League campaign in 2013–14. During this period Brannagan was reportedly extensively scouted by Barcelona.{{cite web|last=Burrows|first=Ben|title=Who is Cameron Brannagan?
