The Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association (CPAA; {{langx|fr|Association canadienne des maîtres de poste et adjoints [ACMPA]|link=no}}) represents rural postal workers for the Canada Post Corporation. The trade union belongs to the Canadian Labour Congress as the federation's smallest national union.
The organization publishes The Canadian Postmaster and hosts a triennial convention.{{cite web|url=http://www.cpaa-acmpa.ca/downloads_en.html#mag|title=Publications|date=2010-03-01|publisher=CPAA|access-date=2010-09-26|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20101129195755/http://www.cpaa-acmpa.ca/downloads_en.html#mag|archive-date=2010-11-29|url-status=dead}}
History
The organization began in 1902 in Stonewall, Manitoba. From there, the trade union spread out through rural areas of Canada. In 2002, Canada issued a commemorative stamp for the organization's 100th anniversary.{{cite web|url=http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/personal/collecting/stamps/archives/2002/2002_july_postmaster.jsf#|title=Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association, 1902-2002|date=2002-07-05|publisher=Canada Post|access-date=2010-09-26|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090923134405/http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/personal/collecting/stamps/archives/2002/2002_july_postmaster.jsf|archive-date=2009-09-23|url-status=dead}}
In recent years, the organization has struggled with closures of rural post offices designed to cut costs at Canada Post.{{cite web|url=http://postandparcel.info/12445/companies/postmasters-fear-canada-post-may-be-planning-more-rural-post-office-closures/|title=Postmasters fear Canada Post may be planning more rural post office closures|date=2005-02-21|publisher=The StarPhoenix as reprinted in Post & Parcel Magazine|access-date=2010-09-26}} Even among rural post offices that remain open, many face cuts in hours and staff.{{cite web|url=http://www.whistlerquestion.com/article/20100825/WHISTLER01/308259968/-1/WHISTLER/reduced-whistler-post-office-service-eyed-union/|title=Reduced Whistler Post Office service eyed|last=Miller|first=Jennifer|date=2010-08-25|publisher=Whistler Question|access-date=2010-09-26}}
