Canfrancesco della Scala was the son of Antonio I della Scala.{{Cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=1rU_AAAAYAAJ |title=Oberbayerisches Archiv für vaterländische Geschichte |publisher=Verlag d. Histor. Vereins |year=1871 |pages=90 |language=de}} In 1387, when his father was defeated by the Visconti of Milan and fled to Ravenna, Canfrancesco remained behind and prepared to resist. However, his efforts failed, and he soon joined his father in exile in Ravenna.{{Cn|date=November 2023}} He tried to retake Verona in 1390.{{Cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=eFg_AQAAMAAJ |title=Nuova enciclopedia italiana |publisher=Unione tipografico-editrice torinese |year=1886 |pages=136 |language=it}} He is believed to have died in 1392, possibly due to poison.
