Carex muricata, the rough sedge or prickly sedge (a name it shares with other species), is a species of Carex found in Europe and western Asia as far as the Himalayas. It has been introduced elsewhere. Poorly studied, Carex muricata is considered a species aggregate.{{cite journal |last1=David |first1=R. W. |date=1976 |title=Nomenclature of the British taxa of the Carex muricata L. aggregate |journal=Watsonia |volume=11 |pages=59–65 }} The aggregate has been subject to a great deal of taxonomic confusion over the years and has yet to be fully resolved.{{cite journal |last1=Molina |first1=Ana |last2=Acedo |first2=Carmen |last3=Llamas |first3=Félix |date=21 February 2008 |title=Taxonomy and new taxa of the Carex divulsa aggregate in Eurasia (section Phaestoglochin, Cyperaceae) |journal=Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society |volume=156 |issue=3 |pages=385–409 |doi=10.1111/j.1095-8339.2007.00760.x |doi-access=free }}
