Within the next twelve years he participated in three exploratory expeditions (1889, 1896 and 1899–1900) to Kaiser-Wilhelmsland (part of German New Guinea). On the third mission (1899–1900) he was made director of the Neu-Guinea Compagnie.{{Cite web |title=Lauterbach, Carl Adolf Georg (1864-1937) on JSTOR |url=https://plants.jstor.org/stable/10.5555/al.ap.person.bm000152309 |access-date=2024-01-17 |website=plants.jstor.org}}[http://www.nationaalherbarium.nl/fmcollectors/L/LauterbachCAG.htm Nationaal Herbarium Nederland] biography Some of the specimens that he collected were further examined by Viktor Ferdinand Brotherus and Paul Christoph Hennings.
