Life

Casey Wei was born in 1985 in Shanghai. She finished her MFA degree in SFU in 2012{{Cite web|url=https://front.bc.ca/events/casey-wei/|title=Casey Wei: Kingsgate Happenings - Western Front|language=en-US|access-date=March 11, 2020}} and made her first film Murky Colors{{Cite web|url=https://www.citr.ca/discorder/summer-2018/murky-colors/|title=Murky Colors|website=CiTR|language=en-US|access-date=March 11, 2020}} which was based on her father Menjin Wei’s novel. Art practice

Started in film making, Wei has gone on to work across disciplines such as music, art and performance. In 2025, Wei was awarded the Philip B. Selected performative art

  • Kingsgate Happenings: Kingsgate Happening is an event held by Casey Wei near Kingsgate Mall that happened across June in 2014, serving as part of the dialogue between Western Front, local artists and the Kingsgate Mall. In the event, she booked bands to perform as a response to “Go Your Own Waste”.{{Cite web|url=https://www.citr.ca/discorder/june-2014/vancouvers-waste-makers/|title=Vancouver's Waste-Makers|last1=June 2|first1=Julie Colero|last2=June 2014|first2=2014 Issue|website=CiTR|language=en-US|access-date=March 11, 2020}}  The documentation of the event reflected the Vancouver art and music scene.
  • M:ST 10 Residency:{{Cite web|url=https://www.mountainstandardtime.org/project/residency-kc-wei|title=M:ST Performative Art — M:ST 10 Residency: KC Wei|website=www.mountainstandardtime.org|language=en|access-date=March 11, 2020}} This is a happening event that took place in Thailand within the M:ST 10 Performative Art Biennial. Casey Wei performed, lectured and traveled throughout Thailand from November 17 – December 14, 2019.
